We love the circus, yes we do. It goes along with the whole epiphany I had during Halloween that everything that was fun as a kid is ten times more fun as a parent watching your kid enjoy it for the first time. And the circus is no exception. This was our second circus with our members and we’re two for two as far as maintaining a toddler’s attention and keeping an infant quiet goes. Woot woot. I won’t mention the fact that the zebra jumped the circus ring and nearly trampled the audience because that would dampen the mood. But it did happen and it was scary.

I love your blog and reading about your family! But please research the abuse that these animals go through for this enjoyment (here is one link for example: http://www.britannica.com/blogs/2007/11/circus-animals-abused-and-dangerous/). I’m not trying to criticize you or your family, just inform you is all.
There are many wonderful replacements (cirque du soleil) for one. We have the power to change all of this by the simple act of not buying a ticket to these shows.
We went to Circus Vargas a few weeks back. It was our first circus since the days we were little tykes. We were both surprised not to see any animals, but it obviously made sense. It can’t be good for them or safe or healthy. We figured the circus no longer had animals. Hooper could have cared less, he enjoyed all the other acts all the same.
Then we went to the Ramos circus and were surprised that they did have animals. All in all this circus was pretty ghetto and won’t be one we will be returning to in the future.
thanks for your reply ashley 🙂 it is very surprising that animals are still in circuses! my husband and i went to cirque du soleil years ago and really enjoyed it then took my stepson along, who was just wide-eyed and amazed…so i definitely recommend it!
Oh, Hooper! Those pants, those shoes! He’s such a cutie! I can’t wait until the boys are old enough for Disneyland. Would love to see that again through their eyes.
I have never been to a circus, but I am sure many of them try to treat animals better than they once had. Anyway these are great photos and the clown at the bottom is a great shot!!
Hooper is a doll and i love your photos Ashley girl. I too loved the circus as a kid, and it makes me sad that the animals aren’t treated with kindness most of the time.

I love your Halloween epiphany. It’s pretty much why we started Modern Kiddo. “Bringing the best of your past to your own kiddo’s present”. I really do think things you loved as a kid are even better seen through your child’s eyes!!

Love that picture of Hooper with his hands behind his back – so sweet/mischievous!
