A portrait of my boys, once a week, every week in 2014
It’s been unusually quiet over here. Not over here in the literal sense because it’s actually quite noisy and chaotic in the house; but here – on the blog – crickets have taken over. Life has finally caught up with me. It’s been a whirlwind as of late. The house is a complete disaster; part construction zone, part unpacking disaster. We have lawn chairs that are still in the living room and a garage full of trash, furniture we don’t have room for, clean and dirty laundry, and boxes that have yet to make their way to their proper rooms to be unpacked. There’s full suitcases that still have some Maui sand in them, I’m sure of, and other suitcases with mementos from our latest trip to Puerto Rico. Oh ya, and my sister is getting married today. So ya, life is crazy. In any event, this blog will carry on. I have loads of half-written posts begging for my attention and I have full intentions to give them such just as soon as I can. Here’s a glimpse at life this week:
Van: Has gone pee in the potty several times. Not sure he’s ready for official potty training just yet, but he sure likes the tic-tac he gets for pushing a little stream of urine out.
Hooper: Has to sit on his little suitcase because the table we had made was accidentally made too tall. I swear life is playing a joke on us. If you could see our makeshift tables over the past month, you’d know why having the perfect kitchen table delivered abnormally high is more than hilarious. And by hilarious, I mean ridiculous.

Van: “Hand hat” has made it into this portrait series two weeks in a row, what?! Until we have actual furniture in our house, he has been enjoying riding his scooter indoors. I watched the clock the other day while he sat at the bottom of the stairs for about 30 minutes trying to maneuver the thing upstairs. He got it up the first step.
Hooper: Found a vintage tennis racket I found at a thrift shop in Arizona. I plan on using it as decoration. He plans on using it as a baseball bat. We will fight over it. I will win. I will also buy him a baseball bat. So, I guess we’ll both win.

Van: Still sucks the thumb on his left hand and uses his right hand for what we’ve coined “hand hat”. I’m filing it under “things I never want to forget about my children”. I miss the days Hooper used to suck on his two fingers, so I’m savoring these days – while they last – with Van.
Hooper: Waiting for his turn on the tractor. He seemed content with his initial tractor ride until he got down and Van climbed up, at-which-point he solemnly waited for another turn. Oh, brotherhood.

We (well, the kids and I) are back in Arizona this week as things with the new home remain unfinished. So it goes, right? Fortunately we have lots of family that welcome, and then re-welcome, us with open arms. Through all of the chaos as of late, family has been our saving grace.

Van: Is determined to throw a wrench into my recovery. His defiance wears on me physically and chews up and spits out any amount of patience I have left. He listens, eventually, but it’s always on his terms and on his time. I was trying to get him to follow me to the car when I snapped this picture.

Hooper: Insisted on taking off his shoes because they were “dirty” but is apparently not bothered by bare, dirty feet. Also, he can run across a field full of sharp rocks without wincing; soles of steel, I tell ya.
