A photo journal comprised of my thoughts on motherhood and other life happenings, as well as some of professional work as a photographer. Southern California is home.
Truthfully, I can’t believe I got around to posting snapshots of this week, as it’s been a busy week of work. I guess I had a few days off here and there and these photos serve as proof. We welcomed spring by spending a lot of time outdoors. It had been rainy and cold but suddenly, on the first day of Spring, the sun came out and we took advantage. Even the indoor plants have been blossoming beautifully. I love this time of year. Who said California didn’t have seasons? // I finally received my copy of More of the Business of Being Born but have yet to find the time to watch it. I’ve actually had it for a few weeks now. Maybe I’m intimidated by the multiple CD’s within it. Where will I find the time? Oh dear time fairy, please come my way // We enjoyed breakfast out at a diner. I had cinnamon roll french toast (not pictured, but it really doesn’t get any better than that). Hooper even got to enjoy the rides outside the diner, until we left. Then he threw a small scale tantrum. A peek into the real world of toddler-hood, I suppose // Hooper walked his toy dog all over the place. I long for the day he’s big enough to control Sarah and take her for a walk while I sit at home and paint my nails. I lie, I never paint my nails. But I would enjoy just sitting // Hooper also got a new pair of kicks, size 5. He’s moving up in the world // I found these cute vintage t-shirts for $3 a piece. The stripped one is too small for Hooper, but I figure this new baby should get a little something too. And I’m totally smitten over that Hershey’s shirt. You’ll be seeing a lot of it. Don’t judge, I do laundry all the time // Even when we were indoors, these two munchkins of mine longed to be outdoors. Instead, we played fetch indoors // Snack time just got a whole lot more fun now that someone has perfected sucking out of a straw // That same little someone received a boat load of hand-me-down toys from a friend. Aren’t hand-me-downs the best? The same friend also gave me a children’s table and chairs, for which I have a great DIY planned. Now I need to summons the space fairy because I’m running out of space faster than I’m running out of time.
This past week has been busy, but the fun busy. Willy took Hooper to the beach on a day I had to work. I was bummed I missed it until a friend of ours sent me the photo above and then I was just glad they got to go. There will be more beach trips. We introduced Sarah to a new bone that has already disappeared to the backyard, but not before a true tug-o-war fight was won. I haven’t seen the bone since. We had a play date with the lovely Emerson and her cousin Evan, who is Hooper’s age. Unfortunately I couldn’t get away from photographing this beautiful little girl to capture one, not one, photo of the boys playing. Granted, we lost one of them to nap time and my opportunity was sort of shot. There will be more play dates. We spent lots of time playing in the backyard. Hooper is fond of sticks and Sarah is fond of stealing his sticks. Needless to say, Hooper got knocked straight back by a romping wild Sarah and came inside with no stick and a bump on his head. It’s hard being a boy. Even harder being a boy with Sarah as your best friend. And lastly, some sweet gifts came in the mail from my mother-in-law. It’s always nice to open a surprise package. Hope you all had a nice week as well.
Sarah frolicked on the new sofa and quickly made it her home // I {heart} Bob Dylan // Papa was set to work from home on a day I was cancelled from work so we had an unexpected day together 🙂 // Hooper took exceptionally long naps this week, I’m talkin’ 4 to 5 hour naps… growth spurt? // He woke up from his slumber happy as pie and gnawing on his crib rail, as usual // We took Sarah to see her beloved doggie friends at the park // Then she passed out // Hooper’s obsession with my iPhone is intense. There’s lots of screaming fits until he gets that thing in hand, more screaming fits if he does not // Tiny feet I could kiss all day long // Motherly love // Breakfast with my parents before our trip to the zoo // Hooper’s really into stacking things and then watching them fall over // Hot Hot Hot damn we’ve had some warm days, gotta love March in California // Bath time camera attack monster.
We are back from the mountains and had a splendid time indeed. There was lots of nap taking, ice cream and pizza eating, thrift store picking, movie watching, and family memories made. Oh yes, and that fresh air wasn’t too shabby either. Not to mention that on our last morning we stopped for breakfast before making the drive back home and consumed probably the best pancake ever known to man and just as I was biting into that buttermilk goodness, snow started falling. It was like a parting gift with a tag attached that said “come back soon”. And now we can’t wait to return. Here are some snapshots from our extended weekend.
A friend of Willy’s surprised us with cupcakes. They are homemade and they are ah-mazing. She is quite the baker and her cupcakes were enjoyed throughout my first pregnancy as well. I’m a fiend for cupcakes // Hooper learned to how stand up to be tall and sit down to be small and true to Hooper fashion he found some unlabeled uses for his little stool as well. Sarah was not so into it. Just kidding, Sarah was totally into it // Papa came home with a new tattoo. It’s a squirrel, not a rat contrary to popular belief // Sarah has a new affinity for Hooper’s crib. The interest grew gradually until she finally bit the bullet and tried it out for herself. She plays in there with Hooper for a bit and then clears the thing like it ain’t no thang // And Hooper discovered that books are more than just for eating and throwing.
Hooper has started making teeth indentations on his crib rail. I saw our crib used on craigslist a while back and it looked like a little wood pecker slept in it. Now I know why // Hooper worked on perfecting his fork usage. If only he’d be more agreeable to what went on the fork // We broke it down to Jiminy Cricket tunes… again and again. Seriously, this record is the cutest // Sarah had what we refer to as a “bim bom” day. You know, those days when you lounge around and if you get up at all you choose to skip instead of walk because the world is just that jolly // Hooper’s first molar finally made it’s presence. It was preceded by a weeks worth of snot. A lot of snot. The thought of dehydration crossed my mind. Okay, I’m teasing, but really, there was a lot of snot // Hooper ate a full plate of healthy food. And yes, he picked the cheese off first before he really chowed down. (Hooper, I like your style) // I tried mixing strawberries (one of his favorite) with cottage cheese. He didn’t like it. But he did like playing with it between his fingers. And then rubbing it on his belly. And ultimately Sarah was one the one who really scored. She usually does // I found these mushroom canisters and fell in love instantly // Still obsessed with my banana pancakes // And Sarah’s still obsessed with watching any of us eat just about anything // Some vintage books came in a package in the mail for Hooper from Grandma Vickie (thanks!!) // Hooper finally sat down in his bath. He usually stands up. And eventually tries to climb out. He also learned how to make his bath toys squirt water. I got wet // And lastly, Hooper made some important phone calls. For all those mother’s with cute daughters out there, be forewarned.
Happy Friday! And a special thanks to Bleubird for inviting her readers to participate in this post series.
Sarah was busy being Sarah, waiting for her little friend to come out of his crib and play. She is the crib protector, but only sometimes. Other times she is the crib monster// We uncovered an old record from our hand-me-down pile// I made a banana pancake for Hooper and spun the new tunes in the background. So technically speaking, Hooper ate pancakes with Peter// I took our wedding album out of the cupboard and found a nice little home for it behind the sofa// Hooper discovered how to put his jack-in-the-box back in his box and close the lid. Big advances// I spent lots of time in the kitchen inspired by a few new recipes// I made baked sweet potatoes with brown sugar for Hooper to try. He refused to even try. It was a bust// We bought some plants for the backyard// Hooper dug into his spinach nuggets, always a crowd pleaser, and then removed all his books from his bookshelf.
