Finders keepers

Whether I need to add anymore clothes in my closet may be debatable but the fact I feel like I hit jackpot while thrifting in Arizona and in Utah is not debatable. And we’re heading out to Arizona again and rumor has it that a new thrift store just opened up. Ugh. Can’t stop, won’t stop. Pictured are just a few of my favorite finds. I suppose it’s a good thing that I rarely get the opportunity to hit the thrifts when I’m home because the cycle I’m in of donating – buying – donating – buying is getting ridiculous.
And one more new-to-me item, for the home, not thrifted, from this talented artist. I bought two and I love them both. 338A0045-13

A Trinket, A Tasket

Willy, Hooper, and I headed out to Arizona the other weekend to visit with Willy’s side of the family. You can browse through pics from our last visit there here, here, and here. I didn’t manage to take a single picture this time and I’m not sure why. Maybe it was that toddler that had his hands into everything or maybe it was just my pregnancy laziness. Not that I have nothing to show of the trip… Because I came back with plenty of loot. Browsing the thrift stores with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law has become one of my favorite things to do there. They know all the good spots. Here’s what I collected:

An adorable Raggedy Andy doll that now accompanies Hooper to bed. Cutest thing ever!

These children records. And yes, you saw it correctly, Puff the Magic Dragon is included. Boo-Ya!

This vintage book about a boy having his tonsils removed. My nurse instincts kicked in immediately and I had to have it.

This adorable fishing crewel. Thought it would be cute in either of the boys’ rooms.

I stumbled upon this table runner at a Goodwill and couldn’t think of anywhere to put it, but for pennies on the dollar I couldn’t resist. I’ll make it work somewhere or I’ll make something cool with it. This, I promise.

Gotta love a mickey mouse plate. It appears to be handmade. Also found at Goodwill.

I walked by this little cowboy, said “howdy”, he said “howdy” back and from that point on, I knew I was going to take him home with me. Also found at the Goodwill.

If you get something with Micky Mouse, you have to get something with Donald Duck. That’s a rule somewhere, no?

I plan on drilling holes in the bottom of these and planting plants in them. I got the idea from here.

Glass jars. A buck a piece. Beat that you overpriced Mason jars.

Mid-Century lamps. They came as a pair. I’m putting one in Hooper’s room and the other will have a nice home in the garage until a new home is found for it.

This pink Mexican blanket. One of my favorite finds, again, from the Goodwill. A lovely beach blanket. It lives in the back of my car now.

And some random clothing for the boys. I’m in love with that little plaid romper. And I’m quite fond of the Icelandic shirt, though I assure you, Willy and I are not Icelandic. Not even our mailman is Icelandic so don’t draw any wild conclusions.

A Trinket, A Tasket

I hit up some of the local thrift stores the other day and came home with some amazing finds. I even found an atomic style desk for a bargain deal of $14.99, which isn’t pictured and instead is nestled in the garage with several other finds waiting to be placed. I’m telling you, we need a bigger home. I also ran into a patient I cared for in the hospital who recognized me instantly. It warmed my heart to see him doing so well. So yes, it was a very successful outing. Here are my finds:

A Trinket, A Tasket

I love a good treasure hunt and I’ve gotten Willy hot on the trot as well. With my best treasure finding friend in Utah, it’s nice to have Willy as a partner. We went to nearly all of the thrift stores and consignment shops while in Big Bear and snooped our way around grandma’s cabin and here’s what we found:

I’ve been looking for the perfect globe for Hooper’s new room. I found this one for half off at a thrift store. Score!

A book about Elephants, for Hooper.
A letter “H” bookend for none other than Hooper. Are you noticing a theme here?

A set of vintage sheets. I have visions of making this into a crib sheet, but if the baby’s a boy, then I figure the pillow cases are great anyway and I suppose I can use the sheet to make something else.
Vintage yellow lucite grapes. Classic.

These are just some of the fabulous records I found. A dollar a piece, you can’t beat it.

These little lion pillows were a cabin find. I placed several calls to my grandma for her permission to take these treasures home with me. They have been in the cabin as long as I can remember and I think they will look great on Hooper’s big boy bed. He was fond of them as well. So happy to have these.

This little book of things around the house. I’m smitten over these images and I love fabric books, I really do. Hooper can’t eat them and their washable. Seriously, why aren’t all chrildren’s books made of fabric?

Aw yes, something for mama. I love this vintage gold watch. I need to get a new battery and have some links removed, otherwise it’s golden.

Mushroom treasures for the kitchen.

This adorable honey jar. Right now it’s in the kitchen, but I thought it’d also look cute in the one of the kid’s room. Maybe as a bank or goody jar. Something about actually putting honey in it seems like a disaster to me. But it was too cute to pass up.

Vintage Mikasa plates to add to our growing ecclectic plate collection. Seriously, we need to stop. We have no more room for plates, no matter how cool they are.
Not pictured is a b-e-a-u-tiful mid century dresser we found and negotiated down for a very reasonable price. It’s sitting in the garage, awaiting it’s placement in Hooper’s new room. I’ll share pictures when that room is complete but until then, trust me that it was the best steal of this trip.
